Enjoy the little things in life because one day you’ll look back and realize they were the big things.

About Little Things Garden Design
I started Little Things because I’ve noticed over the past few years working in the landscaping and horticulture industry that there’s a lack of good professional resources for people with urban yards that have small projects, or are interested in a DIY approach with a bit of coaching just to make sure things are on the right track.
I initially thought of my own experience, when we first bought a house near UWM with a tiny yard and less than inspiring plantings. I loved plants and working outside and I had a million ideas and had spent hours researching, but I still felt totally unprepared and overwhelmed. How could I know what resources were best or what steps made the most sense for me? It was right around that time that I decided to pursue horticulture as a career and get those answers, but of course, not everyone can do that!
I want to fill in that gap for you – homeowners, DIYers, and renters – by giving you the best ways to improve your small outdoor space and the knowledge you need to care for it.
Traditionally, this is not necessarily how “landscaping” has worked. It’s no surprise that lots of people think they’re not in the market for these types of services, because landscaping is just what you do if you have a big yard, a fancy house, and money to spend on maintenance forever. While there’s nothing wrong with that, my focus is not to give you a beautiful planting that only stays that way as long as you invest in another service to maintain it. It’s not about committing to more expense and services going forward, but about learning how to live in greater connection with the living things in your space.
My goal is to give you a beautiful planting that you feel comfortable and confident about, and to act as a resource when questions do come up.
If this is resonating with you, please contact me or schedule a consultation so we can get started!
I am also potentially looking for other small businesses and individuals to partner with to mutually expand our range of available services. If you are a contractor or in another landscape-adjacent business and think our values might align, please reach out so we can chat about possibilities.
About Me
Hi! I’m Meghan, the owner of Little Things Garden Design. I have been studying and working in horticulture and the green industry for the past 6+ years.
In late 2017, after many years working in training and office administration, I decided to head back to school to learn about “plant stuff” and give something new a try.
I’ve since gained the qualifications that ensure you’re getting a quality experience when you choose to work with me:
- AS – Landscape Horticulture, MATC
- PDC – Permaculture Design Certificate, Midwest Permaculture
- I’ve previously worked as a Horticulturist in sales at a prominent plant nursery, as well as in Maintenance and Design at an amazing landscape company.
I am committed to continuing education and attend various seminars and conferences each year to keep up on the latest research, trends, and best practices in horticulture. I hold all applicable WI licenses necessary to design and install small planting projects, and I am insured and OSHA-10 certified.
I believe that horticulture is for everyone and I am committed to sustainable practices and diversity in the green industry.
Outside of all things plant-related, you can find me exploring natural areas (I’m a Wisconsin Master Naturalist!), participating in cooking experiments with my partner, keeping up on the latest developments with my 2 nephews and niece, and responding to the needs of my two very busy kitties.
I’m looking forward to working with you!
